I
am a huge fan of martial arts films, my all-time martial artist is
Sammo Hung. He produced one of the greatest cult films: Mr Vampire.
That was where I discovered Ricky Hui in the role of Man Choi, this
silly-billy, clumsy student of Sifu Lam Ching-ying. The very first
moment I saw him, something touched my soul and when I saw him dance I
knew I was lost. That was a piece of art! Once you see it, you'll never
forget it. I've seen lots of Ricky films since but Man Choi has a
special place in my heart.
My Man Choi
I think Ricky is a brilliant comedian, his facial expressions, body language and timing are priceless and I love the characters he portrays. I cannot help it but I am drawn to these miserable, helpless, clumsy little guys. They are far from perfect but they are human inside and out, and this is what matters.
Ricky Hui is always regarded as "one of the Hui Brothers", or "the man with famous brothers". He is much more than that. He is a great comedian and singer on his own right. I wish people would realize that he is more than capable of stepping out of the shadow of his brothers. For me he most certainly proved it already. His humour never fails to make me laugh. His voice warms my heart.
For me 阿英, you are perfect just the way you are.
