1. KUNG FU MOVIES
a. Master with Cracked Fingers
(1972)(aka Snake Fist Fighter and Cub Tiger from Canton)
UK release:Imperial. The most widely seen version is a re-edit of a dated
kung fu flick in which a pre-eye and tooth job Jackie does the Bruce Lee
bit.
b. New Fist of Fury
(1975)UK release:TransGlobal. Jackie proved once and for all that he was
NOT the new Bruce Lee in this sequel helmed by original Fist director Lo
Wei.
c. Shaolin Wooden Men
(1976)(aka Shaolin Chamber of Death)
UK release:TransGlobal. JC,still preplastic surgery,proved himself a superb
kung fu performer in this Shaw Brothers style actioner.
d. To Kill With Intrique
(1977)UK release:TransGlobal. JC's occasional outbursts of manic martial
artistry are all that enliven this pedestrian period potboiler
e. Killer Meteor
(1977)UK release:TransGlobal. JC in the first of three films he would make
for former One Armed Boxer Wang Yu. In this movie(get this!) he's the bad
guy.
f. Magnificent Bodyguards
(1978)(aka The Magnificent Bodyguard)
UK release:TransGlobal. Perhaps the only attemp ever at a 3-D kung fu
flick,with JC's fast fist-work a more effective special effect.
g. Snake and Crane Arts of Shaolin
(1978)UK release:TransGlobal. JC's back in Shaw Brothers territory in a
traditional kung fu epic that allows him to throw forms, fast and furious.
h. Half a Loaf of Kung Fu
(1978)UK release:TransGlobal. Some inspired slapstick from JC in what
amounts to Carry On Kung Fuing. Shot back-to-back with Snake and Crane.
i. Snake in the Eagle's Shadow
(1978)(aka Eagle's Shadow)UK release:Made in HK. The film that established
comedy kung fu as the sub-genre of the early 80's. A genuine action
classic.
j. Spiritual Kung Fu
(1978)(aka Karate Ghostbusters No, really..)UK release:TransGlobal.
Ghosts, gags 'n" gung fu in a flick that features furious fights but a bit
dodgy.
k. A Dragon Fist
(1978)UK release:TransGlobal. The nearest JC has ever come to making a Fist
of Fury-type flick. There's not a gag in sight as the dragon fist fighting
Jackie takes vengence.
l. Drunken Master
(1978)UK release:Made in HK. The legend had it coming.....JC leaves the
reputation of Chinese folk hero Wong Fei Hung in tatters after this
hilarious retelling of the master's early years. A kung fu classic.
m. Fearless Hyena
(1979)UK release:TransGlobal. Jackie's directorial debut. A magical mix of
mirth and martial artistry.
n. Young Master
(1980)UK release:Guild. Jackie's first film for Golden Harvest,and a long
underrated mix of comedy and superb kung fu action.
o. Dragon Lord
(1982)UK release:Guild. Though a box office disappointment on its first
relase, but there's still much to enjoy about Chan's last kung fu movies of
the 80's.
p. Drunken Master 2
(1994)UK release:N/A. A long awaited power-packed kung fu flick. Starring
Andy Lau,Anita Mui and Ti Lung from the Better Tomorrow's movie. Don't miss
this one.
2. POLICE STORIES
a. First Mission
(1985)(aka a Heart of the dragon) A tear-jerker. A successful blend of
drama and dynamism with Jackie and Samo Hung showing their stuff in roles
that really challenge them.(br>
b. The Protecter
(1986)UK release:Warners. James Glickenhaus tried to turn Jackie into a
"Dirty Jackie"supercop character. A hit but Jackie's core fan were
disappointed.
c. Police Story
(1986)UK release:4Front Video. The film that the Protector probably should
have been. The film's success is evident from the number of American
actioners that have copied its stunts.
d. Police Story 2
(1988)UK release:4Front Video. A valiant effort but a film with poor
structure that manages only intermittently to recapture the magic of the
original. But worth seeing.
e. Police Story 3
(1992)UK release:Imperial. Jackie is teamed with Police Assassins heroine
Michelle Khan. A surprise flop in HK but a hit everywhere else.
f. Crime Story
(1993)UK release:Imperial. A slick and gritty cop actioner from director
Kirk Wong, based on a true story. Welcome change of pace for Jackie.
g. Police Story 4
(1995)(aka First Strike) Probably the movie that will stop the Americans
from Not giving Jackie a chance in the US market. Really good action here,
better than 007 in fact. Don't you dare miss this one or you will regret it
for the rest of your life. A true Jackie action classic.
3. JACKIE`S OFFBEAT ODDITIES
a. Fantasy Mission Force
b. Battlecreek Brawl
c. Project A
d. Project A Part 2
e.Miracles
