Tai-O Fishing Village
The Tai-O Fishing Village was an important trading and fishing port over a century ago, importing salt and fish to China. Nowadays its more of a tourist attraction attracting vast numbers of tourists per year. A few of the salt pans still exit, but most have been filled in to build high rise housing. Some of the traditional style houses still stand in the centre. Most of Tai-O`s stilt houses were destroyed by fire in 2000. Even so, this is a fascinating little place.
To get to Tai-O, take the ferry from the Outerlying Island ferry pier to Lantau and then catch the bus to Tai-O from the bus terminus.
