The Wong Nai Chung Gap Trail traces the battle for Wong Nai Chung Gap on 19 December 1941, perhaps the bloodiest day of fighting in the short but brutal struggle for Hong Kong during World War II. Marked out from stations 1 to 10, the journey is filled with wartime memories and heroics, marked by ruins that record key chapters of the battle. The trail includes ammunition magazines, an anti-aircraft gun platform, underground bunkers and pillboxes. Some of the old photographs on display at each station are fascinating.
To start the trail, take bus 6 from Central Exchange bus terminus and get off at the petrol station. Walk up the stairs (ignore the sign pointing back down the hill, this is for stations 9 & 10), then up the road for 10mins towards HK Parkview. The trail starts immediately before a little car park. If you are by the Wilson Trail park entrance, or the entrance to Tai Tam Country Park, you have gone too far and need to backtrack a few yards.
