The Ruins of St Paul`s

The Ruins of St Paul`s, or Sao Paulo, is Macau`s national monument. Building began in 1602 and it took 25 years to complete. It was designed by an Italian and built largely by the Japanese. In 1835 a fire swept through the complex destroying everything except the front stone faced facade. It has been built 3 times, and each time has met with tragedy, twice with fire and once with a typhoon. Each time the front face has remained.

To get to Macau, take the ferry from the China-Macau ferry terminal at Sheung Wan. To reach the terminal, exit at Sheung Wan MTR and follow the signs for the Shun Tak Centre. Don`t forget your passport.
